With such a huge range of kids bedding and beds on the market, its good to have a good idea of what you need your childrens bedroom furniture to do for you. Whether you want it to save you space, money or time getting the children off to sleep it’s good to know the different options available.

Bunk beds

These are great for siblings sharing a room. Often childrens rooms are smaller so if you have two sharing then the space saved for storage is invaluable. Bunk beds are usually converted to two singles when required

The Sleeping Station

This is a variation on the bunk bed idea. For the child with his or her own room this is a super space saving bed. The same size as bunk-beds, the top bunk remains as a bed. The bottom bunk however is removed and desk and storage facilities are fitted in instead. There are many combinations of sleep station available. Different desk, wardrobe and drawer or shelving combinations mark out the differing designs.
Over time these have become increasingly popular options for parents with small bedrooms for their children. The furniture also has the advantage of novelty when your child is younger and can grow with them as they get older and their needs change. At aged 7 or 8 the sleep station can be a great den. At age 14 it’s a great space for completing homework or computer gaming.

The Cabin Bed

Cabin beds are excellent space savers too. Often a high bed, but not as high as sleeping stations or bunk beds, they have integral shelves, drawers and cupboards built into the bed base. Low panels box in the bed itself so it feels cosy, which is lovely if this is your childs first bed. These are high beds as well though, so make sure your child can get in and out safely if they often move around at night.
Lower cabin beds exist with deep drawers for toy storage or even sliding doors and shelving in the bed base.

Trundle Beds

Not a new idea, trundle beds have been around for cenutries. They have a low bed that slides underneath them and would have been used for young children sleeping in their mothers room or for the maid servant! Nowadays trundle beds are great for kids who have friends over. Although they don’t have the storage advantages for your kid’s stuff they are a great alternative to sofa beds or inflatable mattresses.

Four Poster Beds

If you have the space and the finances a four poster is a little girls dream bed. A fairytale bed your child will love. It definitely doesnt fit into the practical category, but when it comes to making dreams come true, what does it matter?!
